Victory at last as Simona Halep wins First ever French Open after previous defeat in the finals


Simona Halep have won her first ever Grand Slam title after losing in three finals before this with a gutsy comeback victory over Sloane Stephens in the French Open final.

The Romanian went a set and a break down at Roland Garros but was relentless against 10th seeded Stephens as the American lost eventually to an in form Halep who was all conquering throughout the competition.

She then raced away with the third to win 3-6 6-4 6-1.


“I did everything I could. It is amazing what is happening now,” Halep said. “I have been dreaming for this moment since I started playing tennis.”
