Hey guys it’s the last month of the year and we think a little “top ten list” for everything happening in Nigeria in 2018 is necessary. In that light we bring you the top ten Nigerian songs of 2018.
This list is our opinion and does not in any way make those who didn’t make it to the top ten list any less than those who did. We considered factors like reach, acceptance and versatility in compiling this list.
We’re excited to be doing this and we urge you all to join us to look back on how we all fared this 2018.
So here we go. This is the top ten Nigerian songs of 2018.
No. 10 Mr Real – Legbegbe
Mr Real takes advantage of the shaku shaku dance to score a hit in “Legbegbe”. The song went on to envelope the whole nation and Mr Real has been on a roll since then. This song deserves to be one of the songs that shook Nigeria in 2018.
No. 9 Davido ft Duncan Mighty and Peruzzi -Aza
It’s important to mention that Duncan Mighty shook Nigeria in 2018. He was one of the hottest artists in Nigeria and a lot of musicians tried to tap from his glory. “Aza” was one of them. Davido jumped on him once he found out about that and “Aza” became a hit song immediately.
No. 8 Wizkid – Fever
No. 7 Davido -Assurance
After it was released, “Assurance” became a popular expression among Nigeria’s millenials meaning so many things including reward for hardwork, expressions of love, among other things. It definitely made a lot of wave this 2018 and deserves to be on the number 7 spot.
No. 6 Tiwa Savage ft Duncan Mighty – Lova Lova
No. 5 Olamide – Motigbana
No. 4 Kizz Daniel ft Davido – One Ticket
“One Ticket” became a hit song the day it was released. It didn’t need a video, or a few days to sink in. It just became a hit the second it was released. That’s what happens when Kizz Daniel carefully puts in effort in a song. And the Davido collabo was a great idea.
No. 3 Burna Boy – Ye
“Ye” became a thing after Kanye West released his last studio album and titled it “Ye”. That singular act increased visibility of the song both here in Nigeria and outside the shores of our dear country. Ever since then, the Fela Anikulapo Kuti inspired song has been on every music chart across Nigeria. Definitely should be number 3 on this list.
No. 2 Wizkid ft Duncan Mighty – Fake Love
Remember that Duncan Mighty glory we’ve been talking about, it was activated by Wizkid with the song “Fake love”. It is responsible for turning a fading Duncan Mighty to a living legend. Definitely is one of the hottest songs out of Nigeria this 2018 and the number 2 spot is just perfect for it
No. 1 2baba ft Peruzzi – Amaka
As much as dissapoints go, Amaka’s version tops the list and for no reason at all. 2baba foa way to convince us all that anyone who bears the name “Amaka” is a chronic, incurable disappointment, and that feeling has stuck ever since. It reached basically all parts of Nigeria, was well accepted and is very versatile. That is our number 1 Nigerian song of 2018 and deservedly so.
