Roger Federer is on home soil and has used the advantage to his credit with his impressive performances so far.

The Swiss has qualified to the quarter-finals of the Basel Open with a straight-sets win over Benoit Paire.

The Swiss superstar, looking for an eighth title on home soil, eased past Frenchman Paire 6-1 6-3 in just under an hour to make the last eight for the 15th time.


Second seed and defending champion Marin Cilic beat fellow Croat Borna Coric 6-3 3-6 6-3 and France’s Adrian Mannarino sank Canadian Denis Shapovalov, also in three sets.

Juan Martin del Potro maintained his bid for a place at the ATP World Tour Finals after defeating Julien Benneteau of France 6-4 6-4.
