2017 Budget: Senate committees submit report on budget

The report was presented on Tuesday, May 9, by Appropriation Committee Chairman,Danjuma Goje seconded by Senator Sunny Ogboji.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki congratulated the budget committee on the performance of its duties.

He also informed the Senate that printed copies of the report would be out on Wednesday.

The report was due for initial submission on Thursday, but the presentation was postponed to enable the committees put finishing touches on the document.

Goje, in April, accused the police of making away with documents critical to the 2017 budget during a raid on his residence.

He warned that the passage of the budget would be delayed if the documents were returned.

The police initially denied taking any such documents, but later returned items seized during the raid to Goje.

Meanwhile, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo will expectedly sign the 2017 budget into law due to the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Buhari left the country on Sunday, May 7, for an indefinite medical vacation in London following months of ill-health.

The president had earlier spent 49 days in London on what was meant to be a 10 day medical vacation.

Buhari revealed, upon his return in March, that he had never been so sick in his life.
