Stanley Ibeku: IKOYI BILLIONS- EFCC’S ‘NAME AND SHAME’ MACABRE EMBARRASSING, DISAPPOINTING!

The EFCC in spite of subtle successes has continued the media hype and show of macabre.

The latest is the haul of shame at Osborne Towers- one of Nigeria’s most exclusive and stupendously sticky apartments occupied mainly by political wheelers and dealers whose sources of income remain suspicious.

With frenzy, the EFCC overwhelmed by the humongous amount of money found in flat 7B splashed the pictures both on the social media and the traditional media without properly identifying the owner(s) of the money. Since the shameful dance, different names have been thrown up with an institution of government- National Intelligence Agency- joining the fray in laying claims to the ownership of the money.

Ordinarily, the EFCC should have done its job thoroughly even before moving in to get the cash. The ‘name and shame’ game won’t take us anywhere, rather it will continue to embarrass us in the comity of nations. The media trial as it has been will not add any credibility to the supposedly anti-graft war.

Nigerians can’t be deceived. Real development and growth lies in the eventual direct effect on the citizens. EFCC may do well and save us some embarrassments and do thorough job before going to the press.

The EFCC modus operandus lately connotes disappointment. How will the media hype and noise help the masses? Is politics being played out here as insinuated by some Nigerians? Are there cover-ups?

The EFCC may do well and help solve these puzzles. We already have lots of distractions. Not anymore, please.
