Amazon launches first Drone Delivery Service
Amazon, the world renowned retail giant has just made its first drone delivery service.
The ordered package was delivered in Cambridge,in the UK.
This is the first time such a delivery has been made and hopes are that these initial trials will open the way for more use of drones to delivery goods and services ordered from retail chains.
The BBC reports that the delivery happened on December 7 2016 but was only made public on December 14.
The news site reports that “the Cambridge fulfillment centre is home to the drones, which, once the ordered package is on board, travel along an automated track to the launch area.
The drones then take off and fly completely autonomously, guided by GPS to their destination.
They are capable of carrying items weighing up to 2.7kg (5lbs).”
The retail giant plans to expand its Prime Air Drone Delivery service after further test trials.
