DR CONGO HUMBLES DEFENDING CHAMPIONS, NIGERIA

Team Nigeria had it’s first defeat of the ongoing AfroBasket after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo yesterday.

The Congolese had the better of the Nigerians by getting a 83-77 win over their Nigerian opponents in the first Group A final game at the Salle Omnisport de Rades, Tunisia.

Myck Kabongo led the way for Congo with 17 points as the point guard of the team and also had a team-high eight assists, as his team put behind their opening day loss to Mail, having dispatched Côte d’Ivoire on Saturday.

Ike Diogu was absent for the Nigerians as a result of an injury and the influencial captain was solely missed but the forward have revealed that the defeat to Congo is a wake-up call to him and his teammates.

“We are not deterred by our loss to RD Congo, but will only use it as a wake-up call that the championship is getting tougher as we await whoever comes our way in the quarter-final,” Ike Diogu said.

Diogu was instrumental for Nigeria in their narrow 78-77 defeat of Côte d’Ivoire in their opener on Friday, after he contributed 31 points and eight rebounds.
