Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has taken his campaign against drug abuse to local areas in the State as he engaged a group of youths in a kind of stop and greet meeting yesterday in Ikeduru LGA of the State.

The governor who was on a project inspection tour across four local government areas in the State yesterday, took out time to interact with the youths, particularly explaining to them his reason for introducing a special task force to tackle drug abuse, especially among the youths of the State. He explained that the war against drug abuse and dealing on narcotics in the State is as serious as the war against armed robbery, kidnapping and other serious crimes because without unfettered access to marijuana and other hard drugs, these crimes would drastically reduce.

Borrowing a leaf from the no-nonsense President of Philippines, Mr Rodrigo Duterte who has declared an all-out war against hard drugs in his country, Owelle Rochas Okorocha warned that anyone caught engaging in any form of drug dealing or abuse will be dealt with and any house used for illicit trade or abuse of hard drugs will be demolished. According to the cerebral and very humane chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, “crime and hard drugs are like Siamese twins, as it will be nearly impossible to engage in crime without been high on some hard drugs.
Meantime, a cross section of Imolites have commended the governor’s initiative on tackling abuse on hard drugs, with some people saying that it is the surest sign that the governor cares about the betterment of our youths. According to Mr Innocent Obi, a retired school principal; “the governor has shown that he is not only interested in the growth and betterment of his own children, but cares that the children of the poor are mentally and physically prepared to compete favorably with their counterparts across the world. The governor can afford to ignore this dangerous vice which has become prevalent in the State, because his own children and those children directly related to him could be said to be safe from the dangers of drug abuse, but the governor wants every child to enjoy the same opportunities available to the children of the rich and famous. I am particularly grateful to the governor for this.”

GOD HAS BLESSED IMO STATE!
